# Picocrypt-NG (open-source security app)

> Picocrypt-NG is a free, open-source security app for Android. Paranoid, offline file encryption with XChaCha20 and Argon2id. It has 475 GitHub stars and is released under the GPL-3.0-only license, and you can install it from F-Droid.

Picocrypt-NG encrypts files locally — a community-maintained continuation of Picocrypt. No accounts, no cloud, no telemetry, no network access (the app does not request the INTERNET permission). XChaCha20 for encryption, with the key derived from your password by Argon2id. Every volume is authenticated, so tampering or corruption is detected on decryption.
