# Vela (open-source maps and navigation app)

> Vela is a free, open-source maps and navigation app for Android. Degoogled maps & turn-by-turn navigation for Android - MapLibre + Overture POI, no Google Play Services. It has 894 GitHub stars and is released under the GPL-3.0 license. Its source code is on GitHub at PimpinPumpkin/Vela.

Live traffic, real place data and turn-by-turn navigation, with zero Google on your phone. A degoogled maps and navigation app for Android: what NewPipe is to YouTube, for Google Maps. The map is open data. The basemap is open vector tiles, and the places on it are Vela data: Overture Maps and AllThePlaces, positioned with OpenStreetMap, baked into tiles in this repo and streamed from its releases. Browsing around never asks Google anything.
