How many self-hosted apps are listed on appsgit?

appsgit lists 1,254 apps you can host yourself, 829 of them with an official Docker image. 1,203 of the 1,254 listed apps are open source, 48 are source-available and 3 have licenses that could not be verified. Listings come from the awesome-selfhosted list plus community submissions, and stars, commits and releases are refreshed from the GitHub API.

What does the Docker only filter do?

It keeps apps that publish an official Docker image or Docker Compose setup. Those are usually the quickest to install on a VPS or home server, because you can run them with a single docker compose up -d.

What is the difference between Most stars and Most active?

Most stars ranks apps by total GitHub stars, which reflects long-term popularity. Most active ranks by commits in the last twelve months, which surfaces projects that are being developed right now, even if they are younger.

Are all of these apps free?

Almost all of them. 1,203 of the 1,254 listed apps are open source, 48 are source-available and 3 have licenses that could not be verified. Open-source apps cost nothing to run on your own hardware; source-available apps carry a "Source-available" badge because their licenses limit some uses, such as hosted, commercial or production use. Use the Open source only filter to hide them. Some projects also sell a hosted plan or enterprise features, and you pay for your own server if you rent one.
